Precision and Reliability

Cooperation Background

In cancer radiotherapy, the precision of the rotating system directly determines the targeting accuracy of the radiation beam — any micron-level rotational deviation may translate into a millimeter-level irradiation offset inside the patient’s body, affecting treatment effectiveness and potentially endangering normal tissue.

Driven by an almost exacting pursuit of “precision,” when this globally renowned radiotherapy equipment manufacturer began developing a new generation of radiotherapy equipment more than ten years ago, it raised the precision and rigidity requirements for the main rotary bearing to an unprecedented level. The customer required the bearing to maintain high rigidity, low runout, and extremely high rotational precision under heavy-load, low-speed operating conditions with frequent starts and stops, thereby ensuring precise positioning of the radiation beam.

02 · Preloaded Crossed Cylindrical Roller Bearing

Our Solution

Based on the customer’s equipment structure and load characteristics, we recommended and customized a preloaded crossed cylindrical roller bearing with an outside diameter of 480 mm.

The design eliminates clearance through preloading, significantly improving system rigidity. At the same time, the crossed roller structure can withstand radial loads, axial loads, and overturning moments simultaneously, perfectly matching the compact space and combined-load requirements of the treatment equipment.

Behind this solution lies our in-depth understanding of the actual operating conditions of radiotherapy equipment and extensive simulation calculations. The crossed cylindrical roller structure was selected because a single bearing can replace the traditional combination of a “radial bearing + thrust bearing + auxiliary bearing.” This not only significantly saves installation space, but also avoids the cumulative errors caused by multiple bearings installed in series.

The key advantage of the preload design is that it allows the bearing to operate with zero clearance or even negative clearance, thereby completely eliminating minute displacement at the moment of starting and stopping and ensuring that the equipment can return to the same precise position during every rotational start and stop.

In addition, we carried out specialized optimization of rolling-element consistency and raceway profiles, resulting in more uniform load distribution and fundamentally ensuring long-term retention of precision during operation.

Precision Control

Ultra-High Precision

The radial runout of the bearing is strictly controlled within 0.01 mm, providing an extremely stable rotational reference for the equipment's axis of rotation.

For a radiotherapy device, this 0.01 mm represents a critical step in reducing irradiation error from “acceptable” to “negligible.” In actual clinical practice, this level of precision means that the radiation beam can be focused more accurately on the tumor target area, protecting surrounding normal tissues from unnecessary radiation damage to the greatest possible extent and truly putting the radiotherapy concept of “precise targeting and minimal damage” into practice.

Customer Verification

Complete Compatibility

After delivery, the product successfully passed the customer’s rigorous installation verification, with all performance indicators fully meeting its design requirements.

More importantly, the bearing demonstrated excellent precision stability during subsequent long-term operation in the actual equipment. Even under operating conditions involving several starts and stops each day, the rotational precision of the bearing consistently remained within the original design range, with no obvious signs of precision degradation, providing a fundamental guarantee for the long-term reliable operation of the customer’s equipment.

03 · Nearly Two Decades of Cooperation

Long-Term Trust

Since the beginning of our cooperation, we have maintained stable annual supplies to the customer, with consistently reliable product quality and no batch-related quality issues. The cooperation between the two parties has continued for nearly 20 years. This trust, built over almost two decades, is the best endorsement of our philosophy of “Precision Manufacturing, Reliable Delivery.”

Over the past nearly two decades, we have been not only a supplier, but have gradually become a technical advisor for the customer’s rotating system solutions. Through multiple product iterations, our technical team has worked closely with the customer’s R&D team, participating in joint testing and data reviews. Based on clinical feedback, we continuously optimized bearing lubrication methods, sealing structures, and preload settings, further reducing bearing vibration and noise levels and significantly extending service life.

It is precisely the refinement of these “invisible” details that has elevated the cooperation between the two parties from initially “meeting drawing requirements” to today’s “jointly defining performance standards,” establishing a trust barrier that is difficult to replace.

Medical-Grade Bearing Technology

Conclusion

For this industry, the main types of bearing products we use in radiotherapy positioning couch rotary platforms, radiotherapy positioning gantry rotary bases, and other applications are precision crossed roller slewing bearings and LYRT bearings. The characteristics of our bearing products are: low noise, long service life, and high precision (precision grades: P4–P2).

Precision measured in microns, quality proven over decades. We will continue to advance medical-grade bearing technology and contribute more reliable Chinese “bearing” strength to high-end medical equipment worldwide.

LZK Engineering Team

We firmly believe that only by minimizing the error of every rotation can the effectiveness of every treatment be maximized. This is not only the pursuit of technological advancement, but also a commitment to life. With more precise, more reliable, and more durable bearing solutions, we will accompany radiotherapy equipment customers worldwide into the next ten and twenty years.
