High Resolution and Low Radiation Dose Become Core Requirements for Dental CT
Dental cone-beam CT (CBCT) is an indispensable diagnostic tool in fields such as dental implantation, orthodontics, and maxillofacial surgery. It reconstructs three-dimensional images by scanning around the patient’s head with a cone-shaped X-ray beam. As dental care develops toward greater precision and minimally invasive treatment, clinical requirements for spatial image resolution continue to increase. At the same time, patients’ concerns about radiation dose are also prompting equipment manufacturers to seek more efficient scanning methods.
However, the mechanical bottleneck of rotational precision is often the “last mile” constraining image quality—any slight axial runout or radial deviation can introduce motion artifacts into reconstructed images, affecting doctors’ assessment of fine structures such as root canals and bone density.
In dental medical imaging, high resolution and low radiation dose are core requirements, while the rotational precision of CT equipment directly determines image quality.
02 · Customer Requirements
Precision and Stability Requirements Under High-Speed Rotation and Limited Space
Our customer is a pioneer in the domestic dental CT field. Its equipment performs multi-angle scanning under high-speed rotation, placing multiple stringent requirements on the main bearing:
High Axial Rigidity
During scanning, the detector and X-ray source are located on opposite sides of the rotating gantry. Axial displacement can cause projection geometry distortion, directly affecting reconstruction accuracy.
Combined Load Capacity
With limited gantry space, the bearing must simultaneously carry radial force, axial force, and relatively large overturning moments.
Extremely Low Rotational Error
Bearing runout must be controlled at the micron level; otherwise, motion artifacts may obscure lesions such as early caries or small fractures.
Long-Term Stability
Dental clinics use the equipment frequently, so the equipment must maintain its precision for years without degradation, reducing maintenance costs.
Installation Adaptability
Dental CT gantry dimensions vary greatly among different models, so the bearings need series-based matching capability to simplify the overall equipment assembly process.
03 · Our Solution
LYRT Series Precision Three-Row Cylindrical Roller Bearings
To address the above requirements, we recommended our independently developed LYRT series precision three-row cylindrical roller bearings to the customer. This series is specially designed for high-precision rotary tables and medical rotating systems, with the following core advantages:

Independent Load Carrying by Three Roller Rows
The three built-in rows of rollers separately carry radial loads, axial loads, and overturning moments. They provide good rigidity and strong load capacity and can adapt to the combined-load environment of dental CT equipment.
Ultra-Precision Machining Process
The rolling elements and raceways use high-precision grinding, combined with strict heat treatment and stabilization processes, ensuring that finished-product precision reaches P4 or above.
Standardized Series Models
We provide three models—LYRT80, LYRT150, and LYRT180—covering mainstream gantry sizes. Customers do not need to modify the mounting interface and can directly replace existing bearings or install them in new equipment.
Based on the structural parameters of the customer’s different models, we conducted load simulation and adaptation verification, and ultimately determined the bearing preload, grease, and sealing structure to ensure controllable temperature rise and low noise under high-speed rotation.
04 · Measured Data
Key Technical Performance
High Axial Precision
The axial runout of the finished bearing is stably controlled within 0.006 mm, ensuring highly consistent relative positions of the detector and X-ray source during scanning and safeguarding image clarity at the mechanical source.
Rigidity Indicator
Axial rigidity is improved by more than 30%, meeting the dynamic stability requirements during gantry acceleration and deceleration.
Temperature Adaptability
The bearing performs stably in environments from -10°C to 40°C and is suitable for clinics under different climatic conditions.

Customer Results and Value
Customer Results
Installation Verification Quickly Passed
The three bearing models directly fit the customer’s existing mounting interfaces. The customer’s engineering team quickly completed the assembly of the first prototype, and all tests were successfully passed, significantly shortening the new-product development cycle.
Customer Results
Image Quality Improvement
Installation comparison tests show that the new equipment fitted with LYRT bearings can achieve higher spatial resolution in standard phantom scanning, with the artifact index significantly reduced and the boundary between enamel and dentin clearly distinguishable, providing doctors with a more confident basis for diagnosis.
Customer Results
Stable Production Quality
Since batch supply began, we have strictly controlled raw materials, production processes such as grinding, and inspection procedures, with no batch quality issues. Assembly on the customer’s production line has proceeded smoothly without additional adjustment.
Customer Results
Timely Service Response
We provide technical guidance, on-site commissioning, and rapid after-sales support. The customer commented, “The bearings run smoothly, performance exceeds expectations, and we are very satisfied with the timeliness of delivery and the technical service.”
